1 Decision have created a free December PSHE assembly, available to all schools which focuses on kindness and the importance of giving to others.

In the current climate, we believe we cannot do enough to strengthen our communities. This month's assembly reminds children of the importance of supporting those around them and follows the story of a family giving back to a food bank, a food bank they once relied on during difficult times.
The assembly introduces the idea of giving back through a reverse calendar and helps children explore simple, meaningful ways to support the most vulnerable in their community.

Winter wellbeing: toolkit of resources

The festive season is usually associated with joy, happiness and celebration, but for some it may not always be a positive time.

The shorter days, colder temperatures and the pressures associated with this time of year can negatively impact our wellbeing, and it can be easy to forget to look after ourselves. Seasonal affective disorder (SAD) may be an issue some young people experience, and a break from the structure of school or college can be difficult for some students too.

Anna Freud have created a winter wellbeing toolkit for both primary and secondary aged settings that contains lesson plans and supporting activities to help pupils to look after their wellbeing, as well as to understand the importance of self-care and connections with others.

The toolkit also includes a resource for staff on building good mental wellbeing, as well as information on seeking further support.

International Human Rights Day - 10th December

Human Rights Day is observed annually around the world on 10 December. It commemorates the anniversary of one of the world's most groundbreaking global pledges: the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR).

The theme for 2025 is 'Human Rights, Our Everyday Essentials'.

In this period of turbulence and unpredictability, where many feel a growing sense of insecurity, disaffection and alienation, the theme of Human Rights Day is to reaffirm the values of human rights and show that they remain a winning proposition for humanity.

Through this campaign, the aim is to re-engage people with human rights by showing how they shape our daily lives, often in ways we may not always notice. Too often taken for granted or seen as abstract ideas, human rights are the essentials we rely on every day.

By bridging the gap between human rights principles and everyday experiences, the United Nations aim to spark awareness, inspire confidence and encourage collective action.

The campaign emphasises that human rights are positive, essential and attainable. For more information, visit: Human Rights Day | United Nations
